I want to lift round hay bail and by tractor just won't lift. I am looking at upgrading to a 40 HP New Holland Boomer 40 which I am being told has a 1900 lb lifting capacity. Can you provide your opinion on whether this tractor would have what I need to lift a 4 X 5 hay bale.
Probably.
The 250 TL loader on the Boomer 40 was advertised with a 1,940 pound lift capacity, but that is at the pin: the point where the forks/bucket attach to the loader. The center of the bale is going to be at least two feet further out which reduces the lift capacity. The lift capacity at 500mm (about 20 inches) from the pins is 1,370 pounds.
Hay bales can vary in weight by hundred of pounds for a particular size, but the extension services gives an estimate of 700 to 1,000 pounds for a 4x5 round bale.
