Beaver garden tractors were manufactured in Connecticut from the late 1940s to the early 1960s. The first Beaver tractor was built in 1948 and based on the Acme AC-5D built by Smathers Manufacturing of Brevard, North Carolina. Baird Manufacturing of Stratford, Connecticut supplied castings for the Beaver and took over the Beaver Tractor Company in 1954. Beaver was sold in 1961 and assembly moved to New Hartford. Beaver was sold a final time in 1967 to VADCO, which moved inventory to Lewiston, Maine with the intent to resume production. It appears no machines were built and Beaver disappeared in 1968.
