    While the 4050 was initially offered in a Hi-Crop variant, this was soon discontinued because of greater demand for the larger 4250 Hi-Crop tractor. The exact date or serial number is unknown, but it appears to be prior to the introduction of the turbocharged engine in 1986. Daniel Musil did extensive research into the Deere 4050 Hi-Crop production for a series of Green Magazine articles published from August to November 2010.
