Massey Ferguson high horsepower 8400 Series and 7400 Series tractors will now be available with the new Dyna-VT transmission. The Dyna-VT offers infinitely variable speeds, choice of operating modes and simple electronic programming for improved productivity and economy.

“The Dyna-VT represents the best aspects of new tractor technology. It makes operators more productive, saves fuel, is simple to operate and has fewer moving parts then competitive transmissions,” says Eric Raby, vice president, Massey Ferguson marketing North America. “Equip one of our high horsepower 8400 or 7400 models with Dyna-VT and Quadlink™ suspended front axle and experience speeds of up to 32 mph. Faster transit between fields is vital to large operators with fields spread miles apart.”

The Dyna-VT offers a 0-17 mph speed range for fieldwork and a 0-25 (0-32 with Quadlink) for transit with two adjustable cruise controls in each range. Forward cruise speeds can be preset within each of the two ranges using the SV1 and SV2 dials. Press the armrest button, and the selected speeds will be maintained automatically and stored at shutdown. The new transmission also offers four control modes – one lever mode and three pedal modes of Power, Economy and Forager.

Lever mode with either the Power Control lever or Dyna-VT lever is ideal for most situations. Just move the left-hand three function shuttle lever (also controls de-clutch, shuttle forward and reverse, and speeds) to forward. Push the armrest mounted Dyna-VT lever forward to accelerate with no shifting, no break in traction and no break in power. When you reach your desired speed, release the lever. It’s just that simple. Even simpler if you prefer left hand control is to push the Power Control lever ahead and hold it, and the tractor will accelerate until you release.

For specific applications, select pedal mode for one of the three special applications, and use either the accelerator pedal or the hand throttle to adjust the transmission ratio. Power mode is for heavy duty applications and features ‘automatic transmission’ characteristics with maximum speed at maximum engine rpm.

Economy mode is for light duty applications with the engine operating at 1800 rpm for improved fuel efficiency and economy. The Dyna-VT lets the operator throttle back and increase speed at the new lower rpm, saving fuel.

Forager mode is ideal for forage and baling operations with a wide selection of engine speed and power. Lift the pedal to adjust ground speed while engine speed and power are maintained. Press it down and return to working speed.

“The key to the simplicity and the efficiency of the Dyna-VT is the engine supervisor,” says Raby. “It automatically adjusts the transmission ratio when the engine speed falls under load to maintain the relationship between engine load and forward speed. Fine adjustments can be made on the go using the rotary control to maximize engine and transmission for PTO, transport or draft conditions.”
