Case Corporation is proud to announce the 30th anniversary of Steiger® tractors. Throughout that time, innovations introduced under the Steiger name have transformed growers' expectations for high-horsepower, four-wheel-drive (4WD) tractors.

"For 30 years, the Steiger name has represented the highest quality, most productive 4WD tractors in agriculture," says Dave Duff, Case product manager for Steiger tractors. "Steiger designs have led the 4WD tractor industry because of their quality and productivity advantages."

As a way of commemorating the event, all Case IH 9300 Series tractors manufactured in 1999 will carry a special "30 years of 4WD Leadership" decal.

A powerful heritage From the first model, built by Douglas and Marie Steiger on their farm near Thief River Falls, Minn., in the winter of 1957/58, Steiger tractors have been known for their power and performance. The popularity of that early 4WD tractor spurred the formation of the Steiger Tractor Company in Fargo, North Dakota, in 1969.

"The Steiger tractor line has led innovations in ease-of-use, maneuverability, comfort and always power," says Duff. "Some of those included 12-speed powershift transmissions, electronic controls, PFC hydraulics, deluxe cabs, steerable front axles with articulated steering and, of course, higher horsepower."

Combined traditions of excellence In 1986, after Tenneco, Inc. purchased all Steiger assets, the company became part of the newly structured J I Case Company. In December of that year, the first red 9100 Series Steiger tractors were produced. By July of 1989, all models were painted red and carried both the Case IH and Steiger names.

One of the line's most important innovations came in 1996, when Case introduced the Case IH Quadtrac® tractor, currently available in either 360 or 400 horsepower.

"With a 4-track system, the unique Quadtrac design reduces the ridging associated with other track configurations and provides superior flotation with minimal slippage," Duff adds. "It is the best tractor for customers who demand high productivity and less compaction in soft soil conditions."

The Case IH 9300 Series line also includes Row Crop Special tractors. Duff says the tractors are ideal for customers who need a tight turning radius, similar to that of a 2WD tractor, but also require the power of a 4WD tractor for heavy tillage field applications.

Today's Case IH 9300 Series Steiger line offers nine configurations for various high horsepower needs. The current line includes:

  • Case IH 9330 Steiger tractors rated at 240 horsepower, in standard and row crop configurations
  • Case IH 9350 Steiger tractors rated at 310 horsepower, in standard and row crop configurations
  • Case IH 9370 Steiger tractors rated at 360 horsepower
  • Case IH 9370 Quadtrac tractors rated at 360 horsepower
  • Case IH 9380 Steiger tractors rated at 400 horsepower
  • Case IH 9380 Quadtrac tractors rated at 400 horsepower
  • Case IH 9390 Steiger tractors rated at 425 horsepower
