New Century New Power provides a look at large articulated four-wheel drive tractors, and crawler tractors, at the beginning of the 21st Century. Produced by Peter Simpson and Toy Farmer, New Century New Power picks up after the 4WD Tractor Pioneers series, focusing on high-horsepower tractors built around 2008.
Opening with Bonanza Farming, the video explains how early investors used teams of mules and armies of laborers to farm thousands of Midwest acres in the late 1800s. In this same area a handful of farmers can now cover the same ground with massive tractors and crawlers. All aspects of these large machines are covered. Dealer mechanics show how they need crane-equipped trucks and computers to work on modern tractors. Precision farming uses GPS equipment to precisely control tractors in the field. Rubber-tracked crawler tractors provide new options to get low ground-pressure and high power. In addition to farming operations, these four-wheel drive tractors are shown performing construction scraper work, a common task. There is also footage of CaseIH loading these big machines on low-boy trucks and rail cars. Some rare four-wheel drive tractors are shown, including a 50th Anniversary CaseIH 535 that was released from the factory in Steiger green complete with decals.
New Century New Power is a great review of modern farming operations with high-horsepower tractors. Plenty of footage showing tractors in various farming operations is accompanied by interviews with farmers explaining how the tractors are used. The movie is great for anyone interest in big tractors or who wants to learn how modern high-horsepower farming is done.
