"These three new models feature the advanced technology to attain unsurpassed all-purpose farming productivity in today's increasingly competitive agricultural markets," says Don Worner, division marketing manager, John Deere Waterloo Works. "And the 7920, rated at 170 PTO-hp, is the most powerful 7000 Series Tractor ever built."

John Deere 7920 tractor. The new tractors feature John Deere PowerTech emissions-certified engines: 6.8 L on the 7720, and 8.1 L on the 7820 and 7920.

The 6.8 L, six-cylinder engine is designed with a state-of-the-art high-pressure common rail injection system, and is Tier II-compliant. The new 24-valve head design has injectors located in the center of the cylinder bore to improve combustion and lower emissions. A high-pressure pump delivers pressurized fuel on-demand to ensure greater efficiency with the injection system, independent of engine rpm's.

"The 8.1 L, six-cylinder engines feature full electronic engine management and a high-pressure common rail fuel delivery system with air-to-air aftercooler," says Worner. "Electronic computer controls ensure precise fuel delivery and exceptional engine performance to meet more stringent emissions requirements and the ever increasing demands of today's agricultural producers."

There are several transmission options available on the new 7020 tractors, and all transmissions feature a left-hand reverser control for maximum productivity. The chart below highlights the different options:

The 16-speed PowrQuad Plus Transmission with left-hand reverser is standard equipment on the 7720 and 7820 tractors. A single range lever, with top-mounted push-button electronic gear selector, allows for clutchless shifting within four ranges.

"The PowrQuad Plus transmissions also feature speed matching," explains Worner. "When making a range shift at speeds greater than 4.5-mph, the transmission automatically chooses the correct gear in the next range based on the ground speed of the tractor."

The optional 20-speed PowrQuad Plus transmission allows for higher transport speeds, up to 25-mph, and has all the PowrQuad Plus features of the other transmissions.

AutoQuad Plus, available on 7720 and 7820 tractors, offers fully automatic shifting within each range to simplify operation. In the AutoMode setting, the tractor will shift up or down, within a range, to maintain engine rpm. This ensures efficient shifting regardless of the field conditions, and helps increase tractor efficiency while simultaneously reducing operator fatigue.

"All tractors can be ordered with the deluxe Infinitely Variable Transmission (IVT)," says Worner. "It is an option on the 7720 and 7820 tractors, and is standard on the 7920 tractor. IVT set new standards of productivity on the 7010 Series Tractors and it will now be available on all 7020 Series Tractors."

The new 7020 IVT control system features convenient CommandARM speed and throttle controls, making the IVT extremely user-friendly. The IVT allows tractor speeds from 165 ft/hr to 25-mph, and is a totally automatic transmission using an integrated electronic management system.

This simple-to-operate transmission provides producers greater tractor efficiency and fuel savings. IVT is a proven performer that perfectly complements a wide variety of John Deere implements to deliver maximum efficiency and productivity in a wide variety of farming applications.

Sporting a new look, the 7020 tractors feature a redesigned body styling with a sloping front hood for better forward visibility. The one-piece tilt hood allows for easy engine access and improved under-hood serviceability. The single-point latch design minimizes operator effort when opening or closing the hood. The enclosed engine compartment reduces outside drive-by noise.

Extensive research and development has gone into the design of the new CommandView™ Cab on the 7020 Series Tractors. The new cab offers improved visibility, comfort, and room for the operator.

"The new cab has 25% more interior space than previous models, and all controls are color-coded for easy access and operation," states Worner. "The Implement Management System (IMS) allows the operator to program multiple functions that can be engaged with the push of one button. It simplifies implement operation while allowing even less experienced operators to achieve increased productivity."

A new CommandCenter display provides the operator with an easy-to-read monitor system to view many tractor functions. A cornerpost digital display also monitors engine and tractor performance, and allows easy visibility for the operator.

Other features are available as an option on all the new 7020 tractors. These include an HID lighting package, a right-hand door, an instructional seat, Field Office, and ActiveSeat™. The industry-exclusive ActiveSeat, which adjusts up to 200 times per second to keep the operator level and comfortable, is available on all tractors equipped with high-transport-speed capability (25-mph).

The chassis of the 7020 tractors has been redesigned for increased strength and reliability. The sculptured frame design allows the front wheels to tuck under the tractor for a dramatically improved turning radius at narrow tread settings. The increased chassis and wheelbase length provides more stability and improved ride while accommodating a 10% increase in on-board fuel capacity for longer days in the field before refueling.

Several configurations of front axles are available. The 7720 and 7820 are equipped with a non-powered front axle as standard equipment. The 7920 tractor features a heavy-duty Mechanical Front Wheel Drive (MFWD) axle that may be equipped with triple link suspension (TLS) and front wet disk brakes. Additional MFWD axle options are also available, depending on application requirements.

Base equipment hitch-lift capacity has been increased to 10,050 lbs., and an optional 14,000-lb. hitch is available. A heavy-duty 100-mm rear axle is optional on 7720 and 7820 tractors and standard equipment on 7920 models, which can be ordered in lengths of 96-, 110.5-, or 118.5-inches.

"Because of all the options and configurations of the new 7020 tractors, producers will be able to choose the right tractor for their operation," says Worner. "The new technology and enhanced features on these tractors make them the most reliable, productive, efficient, and easy-to-operate tractors John Deere has ever built."
