With the new 9020 and 9020T Tractors, John Deere introduces the most complete line of four-wheel-drive and large track tractors in its history. Five new four-wheel-drive models, ranging from 280 to 450 engine horsepower, and three large track models, ranging from 375 to 450 engine horsepower, offer customers a broad range of horsepower choices.

John Deere PowerTech Engines, 8.1 Liter in the 9120 and 12.5 Liter in the 9220-9520 Tractors, have been designed to meet Tier II emission standards. They feature new electronic unit injectors (EUI's) that allow higher fuel injection pressures for improved performance with lower emissions.

"These engines deliver constant power down to 1600 rpm with a 38% torque rise; and feature a 7% power bulge to pull through the toughest spots," says Greg Laudick, Division Manager, Marketing, Waterloo Works. "They provide high-performance with state-of-the-art electronic controls that meet federal emission standards, and help operators attain more productivity in the field."

The 9020 Tractors feature three transmission options, including an all-new 18-speed PowerShift Transmission. This new state-of-the-art transmission has 18 forward speeds and 6 reverse speeds, and brings unsurpassed shift quality under all load conditions. The new transmission is designed with 10 gears between 3 and 8 mph (field working speeds) giving the operator many choices to maintain efficiency and productivity in the field.

Automatic PowerShift (APS) is a standard feature on the new transmission, and automatically shifts up or down depending on field conditions. Once programmed by the operator, APS optimizes tractor field performance by automatically selecting the best gear to maintain efficient and productive operation.

The 18-Speed PowerShift is optional on the 9120 through 9420 Tractors and standard on the 9520 and 9520T Tractors.

Two other transmissions are also available on the 9020 Tractors, the 12-Speed Syncro and the 24-Speed Powr-Sync. There are four shift ranges on the 12-Speed Syncro transmission, and the operator has three forward, on-the-go, clash-free shifts within each range.

The 24-Speed Powr-Sync transmission allows for clash-free shifting between four ranges, and offers three speeds in each range. A convenient hi-lo controller, located on the CommandARM module, allows for no-clutch, hi-lo shifting in each range. The 24-Speed Powr-Sync transmission is standard on the 9120-9420 Tractors and optional on the 9520 and 9520T Tractors.

"With three transmission options, the 9020 Tractors offer customers the best choice for their operational needs," says Laudick. "They can choose the most productive transmission for their farm or worksite to ensure efficient operation of these powerful workhorses."

Overall operator comfort is improved in the 9020 Tractors. A new CommandARM module features four push-button SCV controls that are located on the front of the armrest. New individual covers on the controls prevent unintentional movement of SCV controls.

The 9020 Tractors (wheeled tractors only) offer an optional John Deere ActiveSeat. This industry-exclusive seat uses a combination electro-hydraulic air seat design to provide unsurpassed operator comfort in all field conditions. The ActiveSeat receives sensor inputs at 200 times per second and adjusts to reduce excessive vertical movement of the seat. The end result is a more comfortable, productive ride since the operator can travel faster in some field conditions.

The 9020 Series Tractors are equipped with a GreenStar Ready wiring harness and implement connector. This allows convenient hook-ups with the high tech components offered by John Deere Ag Management Solutions (AMS) such as parallel tracking, global positioning systems, and data information gathering systems.

A new lighting package is also available on the 9020 Series Tractors. FieldVision lighting features High-Intensity Discharge (HID) Xenon bulbs. They produce an intense white light that is stronger, consume less power, and outlast traditional halogen bulbs.

"Visibility has never been better for working at night, says Laudick, "and the new lighting package adds to the overall productivity of the tractors." Other convenient features added to the new tractors include an enlarged entry/exit platform, a lockable fuel cap, and a fourth step for easier access to the cab. Larger wheels and tires have also been added to base equipment to better match the increased horsepower of the new tractors.

Adding to their strength and durability, the wheeled 9020 Tractors feature inboard planetary final drives with bar axles for a wide range of tread settings. An axle lubrication system has pressurized, cooled, and filtered oil for greater component reliability and service life. Power differential lock is optional on all tractors.

9420 and 9520 wheeled and track tractors also have electronic controls to provide drivetrain overload protection. Heavily ballasted tractors that operate continuously in lower gears need the extra insurance of this overload protection.

The 9020T large track tractors feature a rear axle with inboard steering planetaries and five pinion outboard final drive planetaries for superior strength and reliability. The rear axle is pressure lubricated and cooled by the transmission hydraulic system; and oil levels are conveniently checked with a sight glass on the rear axle.

All 9020 Series Tractors feature a closed center pressure and flow compensated hydraulic system. Maximum pressure is 2900 psi, and hydraulic pump output flow is 44 gpm with 30 gpm available at one selective control valve. The hydraulic system provides improved flow control for better performance with vacuum planters and air seeders. New coupler covers keep the scv's clean.

With increased horsepower ranges, new transmission options, and more comfort in the cab with better seating and convenient controls; the new 9020 Tractors offer high horsepower performance in a very productive, efficient package. For more information, contact your John Deere dealer.
