New technology, customer convenience and comfort, configurations and options for specialty markets, and overall tractor performance are the hallmarks of the new 6020 Series Tractors from John Deere. The tractors are powered by John Deere 4-cylinder, 4.5 Liter PowerTech® engines and are offered in the following sizes:

Model PTO hp (kW) Engine Displmt Liters (cu. in.) Rated Engine Speed (rpm)
612065 (49.2)4.5 (276)2300
622072 (53.7)4.5 (276)2300
632080 (59.7)4.5 (276)2300
642090 (67.1)4.5 (276)2300

"The PowerTech engines are designed to meet future emissions regulations, to maintain excellent fuel economy, and to increase torque and overall power performance," says Ron Schwertner, Division Manager, Marketing, Waterloo Works. "They are an integral part of the full frame concept, with rubber isolation mounts, to eliminate engine block stress and to reduce noise and vibration."

The PowerTech engines also feature a new low temperature cooling circuit for the charge-air cooler and transmission/hydraulic oil. Excellent heat dissipation management promotes an optimized cooling system to increase engine performance and fuel efficiency. A full-pressure lubrication system that is simple and efficient provides proper lubrication throughout the engine.

The fuel system features a new 4-plunger fuel injection pump with increased injection pressures that is self-priming, self-governing, and self-lubricating. It also provides excellent engine torque response and constant power from 2400 to 1840 rpm for reduced gear shifting, even with substantial load variations. Electric fuel shut-off provides positive engine shut down with the ignition key."

6020 Tractors are available with several variations of three basic transmission options, SyncroPlus™, PowrQuadPlus™, and AutoQuad II™," says Schwertner. "These new generation transmissions combine power-saving technology with well-proven design features to ensure reliability, high efficiency, low noise, convenient operation, and low service cost."

All transmissions feature the exclusive PermaClutch 2™ with three large 9-in. diameter clutch disks for optimum clutch modulation and smooth operation. The clutch is oil-cooled for a lifetime of service, and it is especially suited to tough tractor applications, such as loader and blade work.

The standard equipment SyncroPlus transmission provides 12 forward and 4 reverse speeds. All forward and reverse gears and ranges are synchronized for shift-on-the-go capabilities. Direct shuttle shifting from forward to reverse for efficient loader operation is a feature on this transmission. SyncroPlus is also available with a creeper transmission that provides slower forward and reverse speeds for specialty jobs.

The optional PowrQuadPlus transmission provides 16/16 forward/reverse speeds or 24/24 forward/reverse speeds on open station models. PowerQuad Plus™ offers a 16/16 transmission with 4 power shift speeds in 4 ranges or a deluxe 24/24 transmission with 4 power shift speeds in 6 ranges. Left-hand reversers are standard equipment on all PowrQuad type transmissions.

AutoQuad II with 24/24 transmission is the deluxe system that offers 24 forward and 24 reverse speeds. It is equipped with a left-hand reverser and utilizes 4 powershift speeds in 6 synchronized ranges. Transport speed is 25 mph (40k). AutoQuad II has a single-lever control with push buttons for up and down shifting.

"An electronic governor works in conjunction with this transmission," says Schwertner. "Precise control of engine speed, accurate fuel metering, and the ability to communicate with other control units, such as AutoQuad II, results in increased tractor productivity."

One of the high-tech features of the AutoQuad II is the auto mode. Automatic shifting is available in 4 power shift gears in this mode and, depending on engine rpm and load, the transmission will shift into the optimum gear automatically in the field and on the road.

The 6020 Series Tractors feature a modulated 540 rpm PTO as standard equipment on the 6120-6320 Tractors. The optional 540/1000 rpm PTO is also available and is standard on the 6420 Tractor. The PTO is engaged or disengaged with an easily accessible control knob and has an operator presence system to warn the operator (horn sounds and PTO operating light flashes) that the PTO is still engaged. An optional front 1000 rpm PTO is now available for ComfortGard cab 6020 Series Tractors.

All 6020 Series Tractors feature John Deere designed pressure and flow hydraulics with variable pressure from 405 psi to 2900 psi. Maximum hydraulic pressure is available only when needed. This reduces the load on the engine, improves fuel efficiency, enhances system cooling, and puts less strain on hoses and seals. This efficient system comes with a standard 25 gpm main pump and provides fast cycle times then operating implements like front loaders. An 18 gpm optional pump is available for hydraulic function requiring less capacity.

Improvements to the ComfortGard cab on the 6020 Series Tractors make it more attractive and productive for the operator in the area of visibility, comfort, safety, and convenience. A one-piece front window without a centerpost allows unobstructed visibility of the front wheels and is ideal for loader and row crop work. Low sound levels, as low as 72 dB(A), and tuned sound quality provide a quiet working environment. The air conditioning system provides improved air flow with higher air velocity and more precise air streams.

Two types of seats are offered on the 6020 tractors. The mechanical suspension on the Super Comfort Seat allows new seat adjustments to improve operator comfort. The air suspension on the Super Comfort Seat improves operator comfort by dampening or minimizing shocks to the operator automatically. Both seating systems feature a new brown fabric for easy cleaning and maintenance. An instructional seat is now also available as a factory installed option.

Other ComfortGard cab features include overhead storage in the cab, Field Office™ to store a laptop computer, cell phone, papers, etc., tilt/telescoping steering wheel, convenient color-coded controls, and easy entry/exit on both sides of the tractor.

The standard light package on the 6020 cab tractors features a programmable light panel that allows quick and convenient selection of required working lights. The halogen multi-focus headlights are 25% brighter than lights used on 6000 Series model tractors.

"Serviceability on the 6020 Series Tractors has been kept simple and convenient," says Schwertner. "All daily service points can be accessed from the ground level."

A tilt-up hood and quick-release side panels provide easy access to the front mounted battery, air cleaner, radiator and coolant recovery tank. Fan belt adjustment is maintenance free with a spring-loaded self-adjusting belt tensioner. A 250-hour oil and filter change interval reduces maintenance cost, and this can be increased to a 500-hour interval by using John Deere Torq-Gard® Supreme Plus 50 engine oil.

With all the configurations and features for tractor productivity, comfort, serviceability, and horsepower performance; the John Deere 6020 Series Tractors offer great value to customers who want a quality machine that will hold its value for years to come. Depending on the job that needs to be done, there is a 6020 Series tractor for every operation. For more information, contact your local John Deere dealer.
