Three Case IH STX Series Steiger tractor models set 17 records in the recent independent Nebraska tractor tests.

"The Nebraska tests have long been regarded as a 'consumer report' for new agricultural tractors," explains Randy Wood, Case IH product marketing manager for large tractors. "These tests confirm that the STX Series tractors – introduced in 2000 – provide customers with new standards in power, versatility and productivity."

The tests verified that several performance standards of the STX Series tractors surpass any other tractor in their class. Among these standards:

  • Approximately 50% torque rise, higher than all leading competitors
  • Lowest fuel consumption at maximum power
  • Approximately a 50 hp power growth
  • Highest 3-point hitch lift capacity using the OECD testing criteria

And what were the 17 records? The STX375 and STX440 wheeled tractors set these records for four-wheel-drive (4WD) tractors:

STX440 Wheel

  • Highest PTO power at rated engine speed: 400.64 hp
  • Highest maximum PTO power: 454.23 hp
  • Maximum drawbar hp with radial tires: 416.01 hp
  • Drawbar fuel economy at 50% load at reduced engine rpm: 0.397 lbs/hp-hr
  • Maximum drawbar pull with radial tires: 44,525 lbs
  • 3-point hitch lift capacity: 19,620 lbs

STX375 Wheel

  • PTO fuel economy at reduced PTO speed: 0.371 lbs/hp-hr
  • Drawbar fuel economy at 75% load at reduced engine rpm: 0.370 lbs/hp-hr
  • Drawbar fuel economy at 100% load at reduced engine rpm: 0.376 lbs/hp-hr
  • Torque rise at 80% of rated engine speed: 43.9%

The STX 440 Quadtrac set these Nebraska test records for "tracklayer" tractors:

  • PTO Power at rated engine speed: 399.14 PTO hp*
  • Maximum PTO Power: 450.29 hp*
  • 3-point hitch lift capacity: 19,728 lbs
  • Unballasted drawbar horsepower: 386.04 hp
  • Unballasted maximum pull: 38,412 lbs
  • Maximum hydraulic flow: 55.2 gpm
  • Maximum hydraulic hp: 69.0 hp
* These PTO numbers are for tracklayer vehicles

The state of Nebraska requires all agricultural powered tractors over 30 hp to be independently tested. The tests use the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) testing standards as required in some countries. Four tests are completed on each tractor:

  • PTO horsepower
  • Drawbar horsepower
  • Cab sound level
  • Hydraulic system performance

"The STX Series tractors were designed with input from 2,200 farmers," Wood notes. "The result is that these tractors feature unsurpassed productivity, fuel economy, ease of operation, visibility, hydraulic performance and operator comfort, plus improved turning radius."

The remaining models in the new STX 4WD series – the STX275 and the STX325 – will be tested this fall.
